Peniscola is a 12th century walled town on the coast with many kilometres of fantastic flat safe beaches for walking North and South. It is located in the national park with numerous out door activities i.e. mountain biking, horse riding, paint balling off road bikes, quads and cars.

 

There are a variety water sports or push bikes to hire. It is only 30 ins to the river Ebro where you will find fantastic fishing and great villages.

 

The old town boast many restaurants and bars suitable for family or romantic dining. Small local shops and art galleries can be found in the winding passage ways.

Along the new part of town are also many restaurants, bars and shops or try dancing at Papaluna with the out side bands in the evening.

Peniscola Castle

 

The castle where Benedict lived from 1417 until his death in 1423 was restored, improved and new walls were added in 1960 when Anthony Mann's film El Cid was partially filmed there. The town and castle of Peníscola played the role of Valencia. The castle is now a popular tourist attraction and the beaches and surrounding area are a popular family holiday resort.

Church of Virgen del Socorro

Church of Virgen del Socorro or Virgin of Consolation is situated right under the wall of the Peniscola castle. That church was built in early XV century and in spite of several reconstructions it still has expressively Gothic architectural elements

Sculptures on the Promenade

 

Along the promenade of Peñiscola in between the street performances and paintings, you can see some fantastic sculptures. The most notable are a kind of marine animal and a huge dragon covered with small colored tiles. The truth is that Peñiscola is a fantastic destination, and everyone who comes here is sure to return!

Calle Mayor - Shopping

 

The surprises on Calle Mayor never end. It's packed full of small shops where you can find almost anything: clothes, footwear, souvenirs, beads, drinks, sweets, ceramics, paintings, tattoo parlors, ornaments, and countless strange, quirky little spots that are sure to delight the visitor. The atmosphere begins early in the morning, at dawn, and never seems to end.

Peniscola Beaches

 

 

Undoubtedly, the north beach of Peniscola is a benchmark of Castellón beaches is so neat, its size and the quantity and quality of services. Highly recommended the lively promenade that runs along much of the beach, also to make a bike. But perhaps the best thing is the view, the Castillo del Papa Luna appears as an impregnable fort, proud and dominating the Mediterranean. The castle along with the old part of the city are located in this curious peninsula.
